Beáta Hechtova - Melting Plot

Exhibition Opening, Wednesday, 7th October, 7 pm

with Jan Svenungsson, Professor for graphics and printmaking at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and Anezka Jaburkova, curator at the Czech Center in Vienna

Before Beatá Hechtová moved to Vienna five years ago, she studied graphic design and illustration in the Czech Republic. Now she is graduating from Jan Svenungsson's printmaking class at the University of Applied Arts. In her works, the artist varies between different media and techniques such as painting, drawing, printmaking and illustration. Many of the artist's works depict human figures with strong facial expressions and expressive attitudes in several bright colors. Beatá Hechtová processes impressions from travels to distant countries such as Mexico or Peru, but also draws inspiration from the lively atmosphere and cultural diversity in the area where she lives here in Vienna.

Beáta Hechtova, born 1991 in Prague (Czech Republic), finishes her studies at University of Applied Arts Vienna (graphics and printmaking) in the class of Jan Svenungsson. The works she will be showing are part of a series called Melting plot. The paintings have been made in reference to her stay in Amazon rainforest, where she spent a year during her studies. She was trying to capture the chaos within the native cultures influenced by the spread of technology and pop culture. Focusing on the improbable combinations, symbols, mixed up religions and possible outcomes she created very colorful and expressive works.
