Michaela Putz studied at the University of Applied Arts (Master of Art&Science) and Communication and Political Science at the University of Vienna. In her multimedia work she deals with the topics of found footage, archive and (future) memories in the context of digital alienation. Her current work also addresses the question of whether lost things can persist digitally, as well as speculative future reproductions of global species extinction caused by human intervention. She expands the use of photographic images through (digital and analogue) painting and also translates them into spatial installations and objects. 

She has participated in various group and solo exhibitions at home and abroad, including institutional exhibitions and gallery presentations. These include Bildraum01 (Vienna), Alserkal Avenue (Dubai), Unseen Amsterdam, Salzamt Linz (in cooperation with Ars Electronica and Bildrecht), Künstlerhaus Wien, Biquini Wax EPS (Mexico City), a ilha (Lisbon), Vent Gallery (Parallel Vienna), Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo (Montevidéo, Uruguay), CPN Mikrogalerija (Belgrade), U10 Artspace (Belgrade), TAF The Art Foundation (Athens Photo Festival), Unseen Amsterdam, Beton 7 (Athens), Kunstraum Nestroyhof (FOTO WIEN). Participation in several artist residencies, including Paliano (Italy) of the Province of Burgenland in 2022 and Shanghai (China) of the BMKÖS in 2023. 

She has received several scholarships and prizes, including the Annual Prize for Visual
Arts of Burgenland 2018, the START Scholarship for Photography of the Austrian Federal Chancellery 2019 and various working scholarships from the City of Vienna and Burgenland. Her work has been published in various formats and magazines and presented at artist talks and public lectures on contemporary photography and digitisation. 

Michaela Putz was born in 1984, she lives and works in Vienna.
